Obbini Tumbao delivers a double shot of high-energy music that makes audiences want to get up and dance!  Pianist Rebecca Cline and percussionist Anita Quinto write Cuban-influenced popular songs for their band of New England’s best Latin horn section and a smoking rhythm section of congas, timbales, bongos, piano and bass.  Fronted by the area’s most in-demand lead vocalists and the two dynamic co-leaders, Obbini Tumbao leaves audiences feeling enthralled and hungry for more.

Pianist Rebecca Cline has performed or recorded with such artists as Giovanni Hidalgo, Paulo Braga, Romero Lubambo, Jerry González, Horacio “El Negro” Hernández and Charles Neville.  In 2007, Rebecca received a commission from Chamber Music America to compose the suite, Clay, Iron, Water, for her Latin jazz quartet, Enclave.  The work was performed in Boston and New York in the fall of 2008.  In May 2005 she performed at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts as a finalist in the Mary Lou Williams International Women in Jazz Piano Competition.

Her recordings as a leader and side musician include Enclave Diaspora (EnclaveJazz 2009), Enclave (Zoho Music 2005), Havaianas: Vida do Paraiso (Rambling 2005), It Never Entered My Mind (Jon Hazilla 2004), Live at the Nuyorican Café, vol. I: Gracias Polo (TahoeRican 2004), and a forthcoming live trio DVD with Giovanni Hidalgo and Polito Huerta (TahoeRican).  In addition to her work with Obbini Tumbao, she leads a jazz trio and performs with Mango Blue.  She is currently an Assistant Professor at Berklee, where she teaches Ensembles and Piano.

Ana Norgaard, aka Anita Quinto, has performed with internationally acclaimed artists such as Eddie Palmieri, Jose Luis Quintana "Changuito,” John Santos, John Benitez, Kenwood Dennard, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, among others.  Some of Ms. Norgaard’s recording work can be heard on: Casas de los Babies (motion picture, written and directed by John Sayles, soundtrack by Mason Derring);  The Gift of the Game (PBS documentary, produced by Bill Heney and John McNeil, soundtrack by Claudio Ragazzi);  and Purple Cha Cha Heels (CD by Brass Roots,  Accurate Records 2003).   In 1999, Ms. Norgaard received Berklee College of Music’s prestigious Tito Puente Percussion Achievement Award.
